01 Scope of This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed in connection with FishSignal, including information collected when you:
- create and use a FishSignal account;
- save fishing locations;
- use location-based features;
- view fishing, weather, marine, species, or environmental information;
- configure alerts and notifications;
- purchase or manage a subscription;
- contact FishSignal support; or
- otherwise interact with the Service.
This Privacy Policy does not govern the privacy practices of third parties that process information independently under their own privacy policies.
02 Personal Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you use FishSignal.
2.1 Account Information
When you create or use an account, we may process information such as:
- your name;
- email address;
- preferred language;
- account identifiers;
- authentication information and identifiers associated with the authentication method you choose; and
- account creation and status information.
FishSignal may support authentication through third-party authentication providers, including Google and Telegram, as well as passwordless authentication technologies such as passkeys.
When you authenticate through a third-party provider, we may receive information that the provider makes available to us in accordance with your settings and the provider’s applicable terms and privacy practices.
FishSignal does not require you to provide a traditional password where passwordless or third-party authentication is used.
2.2 Saved Location Information
FishSignal is a location-based fishing information service. To provide weather, marine, fishing, species, and related information for places relevant to you, the Service allows you to save locations.
A saved location may include:
- latitude and longitude;
- location name or description;
- map position;
- information associated with the location; and
- your settings and preferences relating to that location.
Saved locations remain associated with your account until you delete the location or your account, subject to limited retention requirements described in this Privacy Policy.
Saved locations are private to your account and are not made publicly available to other FishSignal users.
2.3 Device Location
When you choose to use your current position while adding a location or using a feature that requires orientation relative to local conditions, such as displaying wind direction relative to your position, FishSignal may request permission from your browser or device to access your current location.
Access occurs only when required for the feature you choose to use and subject to the permissions you grant through your browser or device.
FishSignal does not continuously track your physical location and does not maintain a history of your movements.
You may also use FishSignal without providing your current device location by manually selecting or searching for a location where that functionality is available.
When you save a location, FishSignal stores the coordinates of the location you selected. A saved location is not necessarily your current or physical location.
You can revoke device location permission through your browser or device settings. Certain location-dependent features may not function correctly if permission is disabled.
2.4 Preferences and Settings
We may store preferences necessary to customize the Service, including:
- language;
- measurement units;
- saved fishing locations;
- notification preferences;
- alert settings; and
- other application preferences.
2.5 Subscription and Transaction Information
If you purchase a paid FishSignal subscription, payments are processed by our payment provider and Merchant of Record, Paddle.
FishSignal does not directly collect or store your full payment card number or complete payment credentials.
We may receive and store information necessary to activate and manage your subscription, such as:
- Paddle customer identifier;
- subscription identifier;
- transaction identifier;
- subscription plan;
- subscription status;
- transaction amount and currency;
- payment or billing status;
- purchase and renewal dates;
- cancellation information; and
- other transaction information made available to us that is necessary for subscription management, customer support, fraud prevention, accounting, or legal compliance.
Paddle may independently collect additional information required to process a purchase, including contact, billing, location, payment, tax, and fraud-prevention information. Paddle processes such information according to its own legal obligations and privacy practices.
2.6 Technical and Usage Information
When you access FishSignal, we and our infrastructure providers may automatically process certain technical information, including:
- IP address;
- browser type and version;
- operating system;
- device type;
- request date and time;
- requested pages or resources;
- referring information where available;
- server and application logs;
- session information;
- network and security information;
- error information; and
- information necessary to detect abuse or maintain the Service.
We use this information primarily to operate, secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve FishSignal.
2.7 Support and Communications
If you contact us, we may process:
- your name and email address;
- the contents of your message;
- account-related information necessary to respond to your request;
- screenshots, files, or other attachments you voluntarily provide; and
- our correspondence with you.
Please avoid submitting sensitive personal information in support requests unless it is necessary for us to assist you.
2.8 Notifications
If you enable browser notifications or alerts, we may process:
- your notification preferences;
- alert configuration;
- information identifying the browser or notification subscription where required; and
- the saved location or conditions associated with the alert.
Notifications are used to provide alerts or information you have requested or enabled.
You may disable browser notifications through FishSignal where available or through your browser or device settings.
03 Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect
FishSignal is not designed to collect special categories of personal data such as information concerning race or ethnicity, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic information, health information, or information concerning a person’s sex life or sexual orientation.
Please do not provide such information unless it is specifically necessary for a legitimate interaction with us.
At the date of this Privacy Policy, FishSignal does not:
- sell personal information;
- operate an advertising network;
- use personal information for cross-site behavioral advertising;
- provide public user profiles;
- continuously track users’ physical movements; or
- maintain a history of users’ physical movements.
04 How We Collect Information
Directly from you
For example, when you create an account, save a fishing location, configure an alert, choose preferences, or contact support.
Automatically
Certain technical and security information is generated when your browser or device communicates with FishSignal and our infrastructure.
From authentication providers
If you choose Google, Telegram, or another supported authentication method, we may receive the account information necessary to authenticate you.
From payment providers
Paddle may provide FishSignal with transaction and subscription information necessary to provide paid features and manage your subscription.
From your browser or device
When you explicitly grant location or notification permissions, your browser or device may provide information necessary to perform the requested function.
05 How We Use Personal Information
We may use personal information to:
- create, authenticate, maintain, and secure your account;
- provide FishSignal and its features;
- save and manage your fishing locations;
- retrieve environmental, weather, marine, and species information relevant to saved locations;
- generate fishing forecasts, activity estimates, scores, and recommendations;
- personalize the Service based on your saved locations and preferences;
- provide alerts and notifications requested by you;
- process and administer subscriptions;
- provide customer support;
- communicate important information about the Service;
- maintain application security;
- prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and other harmful activity;
- diagnose errors and technical problems;
- maintain and improve performance and reliability;
- enforce our Terms of Service;
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims;
- comply with legal and regulatory obligations; and
- protect the rights, property, safety, and integrity of FishSignal, our users, and others.
We do not use saved fishing locations for advertising.
06 Legal Bases for Processing
Where the GDPR, UK GDPR, or another law requiring a legal basis applies, we process personal data under one or more of the following legal bases.
Performance of a Contract
Processing may be necessary to provide the Service you request, including:
- creating and maintaining your account;
- saving and managing locations;
- providing forecasts and fishing information;
- providing subscription features;
- managing your settings; and
- responding to service-related requests.
Legitimate Interests
We may process information where necessary for legitimate interests, including:
- securing FishSignal;
- preventing abuse and fraud;
- maintaining service reliability;
- troubleshooting;
- understanding and improving the operation of the Service;
- protecting our legal rights; and
- providing effective customer support.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider those interests against the rights and interests of affected users.
Consent
We rely on consent where required by law or where you voluntarily enable a feature that requires permission, such as:
- access to device location;
- certain browser notifications; or
- non-essential cookies or similar technologies, if introduced and where consent is legally required.
You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing that occurred before withdrawal.
Compliance With Legal Obligations
We may process information where necessary to comply with applicable legal, regulatory, accounting, tax, or law-enforcement requirements.
07 Location-Based Processing
Location information is central to the functionality of FishSignal, but we seek to minimize the location information we process.
FishSignal distinguishes between:
- your device’s current location, which may be accessed temporarily when you expressly permit it for a particular feature; and
- a saved fishing location, which is a geographic point you choose to save to receive information about that area.
FishSignal does not assume that a saved fishing location represents your residence, current physical position, or continuous whereabouts.
When environmental or species information is requested, coordinates associated with a saved or selected location may be transmitted to third-party data providers as necessary to obtain relevant information.
Where possible, these requests contain geographic coordinates required for the data query rather than information directly identifying your FishSignal account.
08 Fishing Forecasts and Automated Calculations
FishSignal uses environmental, geographic, marine, weather, biological, and other data to generate or display fishing-related information.
The Service may use automated calculations, algorithms, scoring systems, or models to generate:
- fishing condition scores;
- species activity estimates;
- environmental assessments;
- forecasts;
- alerts; and
- recommendations.
These outputs are provided for informational purposes.
FishSignal does not currently use such processing to make decisions that produce legal effects concerning users or similarly significantly affect them within the meaning of applicable data protection laws.

09 Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We disclose information to third parties only where reasonably necessary to operate FishSignal, provide a feature requested by you, process transactions, comply with law, or protect legitimate interests.
Depending on the feature you use, these parties may include the following categories.
Infrastructure and Security Providers
FishSignal uses third-party infrastructure and security services, including Cloudflare, for functions that may include network security, content delivery, performance, infrastructure, and object storage.
Backups or other application data may be stored using Cloudflare R2.
Because network communications pass through infrastructure providers, they may process technical information such as IP addresses and request metadata as necessary to provide their services.
Weather and Marine Data Providers
FishSignal uses Open-Meteo and related services to obtain weather and marine information.
Coordinates of a selected or saved fishing location may be sent to these services to request information for that geographic point.
FishSignal does not need to provide your name or email address to Open-Meteo for ordinary weather or marine data requests.
Mapping Services
FishSignal uses Leaflet to display interactive maps and uses map data or map tiles based on OpenStreetMap.
Where map resources are loaded directly by your browser from a third-party map service, that service necessarily receives technical network information such as your IP address and information associated with the request.
Geocoding
FishSignal uses Mapbox for geocoding and location search functionality.
When you search for a location, information necessary to perform that search may be transmitted to Mapbox. Depending on how the feature is used, this may include the search query, geographic context, IP address, and technical request information.
Mapbox may process certain information as an independent controller under its own privacy terms.
Environmental and Biological Data Providers
FishSignal may retrieve environmental, geographic, biological, or species-related data from sources and services including GBIF, NASA, NOAA, and Copernicus.
Coordinates of a selected or saved location may be included in backend requests where necessary to obtain geographically relevant data.
We seek to avoid sending information such as your name or email address where it is not necessary for the requested data.
Email Delivery
FishSignal uses Resend to deliver transactional and service-related emails.
Information necessary to deliver an email, including your email address and message delivery information, may therefore be processed by Resend.
Authentication Providers
If you choose a third-party authentication method such as Google or Telegram, the relevant provider processes information in accordance with its own privacy practices.
FishSignal receives only the information made available through the applicable authentication process that is necessary to create, identify, or authenticate your account.
Payment Processing
Paid subscriptions are processed through Paddle, our Merchant of Record.
Paddle independently processes information necessary for payment processing, taxation, billing, invoicing, fraud prevention, regulatory compliance, and related functions.
FishSignal receives information from Paddle where necessary to provide and manage the subscription you purchased.
11 Analytics
FishSignal may use privacy-appropriate technical measurements and infrastructure information necessary to understand the performance, reliability, security, and operation of the Service.
We do not currently represent optional third-party analytics services as part of the Service unless they are actually implemented.
If we introduce third-party analytics technologies that process personal information or use non-essential cookies, this Privacy Policy and, where applicable, our Cookie Policy and consent mechanisms will be updated accordingly.
12 Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing the Service and meeting security, accounting, legal, and regulatory obligations.
Retention periods depend on the type of information.
In general:
- Account information is retained while your account remains active and is deleted or anonymized following account deletion, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Saved locations are retained until you delete the location or your account.
- Preferences and alert settings are generally retained while the relevant account, location, or alert remains active.
- Authentication and session information is retained for the duration required for authentication, session management, security, and expiration.
- Support correspondence may be retained during the lifetime of your account and for up to 12 months afterward where reasonably necessary for support, dispute resolution, security, or legal purposes.
- Server and security logs are generally retained for no longer than 90 days unless a longer period is necessary to investigate security incidents, fraud, abuse, technical problems, or legal claims.
- Transaction and subscription records may be retained for longer periods where necessary to comply with accounting, tax, payment, fraud-prevention, or other legal obligations.
- Backup copies may remain in protected backup systems for up to 90 days after deletion from active systems, unless a longer retention period is technically or legally necessary.
Information may also be retained for longer where required by law, necessary to resolve a dispute, enforce an agreement, investigate abuse, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Where feasible, information retained beyond its ordinary operational purpose will be isolated or restricted from routine use.
13 Account and Data Deletion
You may delete your FishSignal account using the account deletion functionality provided within the Service.
Deleting your account will cause information associated with the account to be deleted or anonymized from active systems, subject to limited exceptions described below.
Certain information may remain temporarily in:
- backup systems;
- security logs;
- transaction records; or
- records that we are legally required or reasonably entitled to retain.
Residual copies in backups may remain for up to 90 days before being overwritten or deleted in accordance with our backup lifecycle.
Information retained to comply with law, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or establish or defend legal claims may be retained for the period reasonably necessary for those purposes.
Deleting your FishSignal account does not necessarily cause independent third parties, such as Paddle, to delete information that they process under their own legal obligations and privacy policies.
14 Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, loss, or destruction.
Depending on the system involved, these measures may include:
- encrypted communications using HTTPS/TLS;
- access restrictions;
- authentication controls;
- administrative access protections;
- separation of access privileges;
- backups;
- infrastructure and network security controls; and
- security monitoring.
Administrative access to relevant systems may additionally be protected by multi-factor authentication.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We therefore cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of the authentication methods and devices used to access your FishSignal account.
15 International Data Transfers
FishSignal is operated from Georgia and uses service providers and data sources located in multiple countries.
As a result, your personal information may be processed or stored in countries other than the country where you reside, including Georgia, countries within the European Economic Area, the United States, and other jurisdictions in which our service providers operate.
Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we will use legally recognized mechanisms appropriate to the transfer, which may include:
- adequacy decisions;
- Standard Contractual Clauses;
- the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or other approved UK transfer mechanisms;
- contractual and organizational safeguards; or
- other lawful transfer mechanisms available under applicable law.
Third-party providers may also independently implement their own lawful transfer mechanisms.
16 Disclosure Required by Law
We may disclose personal information where we reasonably believe disclosure is required or permitted by applicable law, regulation, legal process, court order, or a valid request from a competent governmental or law-enforcement authority.
Where legally permitted and reasonably practicable, we seek to disclose only information necessary to respond to a valid request.
We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to:
- protect the rights or property of FishSignal;
- investigate fraud or security incidents;
- enforce our agreements;
- protect users or the public from harm; or
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
17 Business Transfers
If FishSignal is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, reorganization, sale of assets, transfer of business, insolvency proceeding, or similar transaction, personal information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that transaction.
Where required by law, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information remains subject to appropriate privacy protections and will provide notice of material changes affecting the processing of your information.

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights concerning your personal information.

23 No Sale of Personal Information
FishSignal does not sell personal information for monetary consideration.
FishSignal also does not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or use saved fishing locations for advertising purposes.
If these practices materially change, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any notices, choices, or consent mechanisms required by applicable law before implementing the relevant processing.
24 Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect:
- changes to FishSignal;
- new or changed service providers;
- changes in the information we process;
- changes in our privacy practices; or
- legal or regulatory requirements.
